Counseling

The Student Affairs Office is for the benefit and use of all students, prospective students, and graduates. Information about admission requirements and procedures is available there. Guidance services include admissions counseling, career and personal counseling, career placement, and follow-up. Career assessment and planning services are available to assess one's interest, abilities, and skills in relation to training and employment potential. These services generally begin with the pre-admission process.

Special Populations

The Special Populations Coordinator provides counseling and assistance to students, including those listed below to help them stay in college and reach their goals.

Who are Special Population Students?

•  students who are single parents, displaced homemakers (divorced, separated, pregnant, widowed)
•  students who are economically disadvantaged
•  students who have limited English proficiency
•  students who are non-traditional in their programs (ex.: a male student in the nursing program or a female in the welding program)
•  any students who have special needs and would like to be a part of this group



What Assistance is Available?

Consultation and referrals to community and college resources is available. As needed, students are referred to local agencies such as the Gateway House for Battered Women, local food banks and shelters, local Health Departments and Mental Health Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, the Department of Family and Children's Services, GHAIN, the Salvation Army and many others.

Heroes Lunch 'n Learn meetings and programs are for special population students and all other students who wish to participate. Students are provided with educational and informative presentations that focus on topics such as the following:

  • Interview Skills
  • Workplace Ethics and Etiquette
  • Customer Service
  • Dress for Success
  • Domestic Violence
  • Tax Tips for Single Parents
  • Test Taking and Study Skills

Heroes meetings and programs are advertised on flat screen TV's and on flyers posted around the campus. Free lunch is provided by Student Government Association for Heroes meetings.

Voter Registration
Voter Registration Forms are available at all of the Student Affairs Front Desks of Lanier Technical College Campuses. Voter Registration Offices work with Front Desk staff to ensure that staff is trained in helping process forms. Signs are posted at campuses to make students aware of this opportunity. When available, Voter Registration officials set up tables to recruit new voters at campuses.
