Interiors Program students present Spring Portfolio Show

Interiors Program students presented their Spring Portfolio Show on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center. The show featured eight students, Jenni Dinsmore, Kelly Helton, Bailey Kraft, Christina Mannarino, Ashton Flynn Rodriguez, Allison Smith, Kate Thrower and Denise Watson.

Amy O’Dell, Chair of the Interiors Program at Lanier Technical College, explained that, “these eight amazing students are currently enrolled in INDS 2240 Business Practices for Design Professionals. This capstone class requires students to synthesize all of the skills, knowledge, and techniques they have gained throughout their education into a cohesive presentation. The Portfolio Exhibit is a requirement of the state curriculum, but it is also a salute to the students’ success.”

First Year students presently enrolled in the Interiors Program also participated in the night’s event by showcasing their introductory level projects. They also assisted with the Interiors Club raffle ticket fundraiser, the refreshments and the people’s choice award voting.

Sarah Abbott, Lanier Tech Interiors 2015 Almuna, was the featured guest speaker. Sarah shared words of wisdom as well as information about the importance of interior design education. Her speech was inspiring for the new designers and for all!

Next, Amy O'Dell presented an award of excellence to each of the eight featured students. She spoke highly of their unique and individual talents.

Bailey Kraft and Kelly Helton received the awards for Innovation and
Impact on Industry.

Jenni Dinsmore and Ashton Flynn Rodriguez earned the Awards
for Work Ethics.

Allison Smith and Christina Mannarino were both awarded the
coveted Best Overall Portfolio.

Kate Thrower and Denise Watson each received
Best Overall Student.

Visitors to the show were given the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and also were asked to vote for their favorite portfolio. Raffle ticket door prizes were provided by FiveSixteen Originals, Homemade by Christina, Miko and Boone Home, Orange and Orange Interior Designs, Watson & Company Interior Design and Gregory’s Paint and Flooring. The students greatly appreciate the donations.

The first annual People’s Choice Award was won by Allison Smith.

It was a celebratory evening, with over 100 friends, family members, college staff and faculty, and industry partners in attendance. We are proud of our Lanier Tech Interiors Students and wish them the best of luck as they graduate and enter the design industry.
