Lanier Tech's Commercial Truck Driving Program hosts
Open House at Jackson Campus

Lanier Technical College is proud to introduce its newest program, Commercial Truck Driving.  Thanks to the support of Jackson County for the donation of a tractor-trailer truck and for providing the use of their Fire Training Facility as a Driving Skills Range, Lanier Tech believes this program will be a huge success.  The Commercial Truck Driving program at Lanier Tech will prepare students to get their Class A Commercial Driver License by the end of the 8-week program.  This new program is certain to improve the job opportunities for residents of Jackson and the surrounding counties by preparing its students for prosperous and exciting new careers as professional commercial drivers.  HOPE Grant and financial assistance from local workforce development program, WIOA, are available for most interested in attending the program.

Fueled by the expanding economy, Georgia has an increasing shortage of trained, commercial truck drivers. Lanier Technical College intends to continue the Commercial Truck Driving Program for many, many years since the need for certified truck drives is predicted to continue. Additionally, a recent forecast from the American Trucking Association predicts that truck freight tonnage will increase by 36% over the next 10 years. Freight tonnage transported through Georgia is expected to increase even more significantly due to the infrastructure improvements at the Port of Savannah and the growing presence of consumer fulfillers located in Georgia, such as Amazon.

Lanier Tech's Commercial Truck Driving program will be lead by Chad Edwards and Stanley Pierce.  Edwards has several years of experience driving tractor-trailers over-the-road and has won two drivers' roadeos as a charter bus driver.  He also has experience driving tour buses for country music acts including Jerrod Niemann, Drake White, and LoCash.  Pierce is a 40+ year veteran of commercial truck driving.  He has driven everything from gas tankers to doubles, flatbeds to reefers.  Additionally, he’s been an owner-operator of several trucks personally, won countless safety awards, and has over a million miles of safe driving for Wal-Mart.  Both instructors have proven themselves as top drivers in their positions as commercial drivers, and they are committed to developing safe and skillful drivers in the new Commercial Truck Driving Program at Lanier Technical College.
