Lanier Technical College is committed to supporting students with disabilities by providing services that ensure program accessibility and reasonable accommodations. Accessibility Services is dedicated to empowering students with disabilities to fully participate in the college’s curriculum, programs, and activities and assisting to implement reasonable and appropriate accommodations as supported by a student’s documentation. These services are offered to individuals who meet the definition a disability under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA). A disability is defined as a condition that significantly limits one or more major life activities including walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, learning, and working. Disabilities may be permanent or temporary. The student must meet the academic and technical standards required for admission or participation in a program of study with or without reasonable accommodations.
To request accommodations at Lanier Technical College while participating in Dual Enrollment, the student must self-identify and disclose their disability to the Accessibility Services department by completing the registration form. This will initiate the interactive process, and next steps for scheduling an Intake Meeting will be provided via email. Current documentation of the disability from a qualified medical professional is required. It may be sent to adacoordinator@laniertech.edu prior to scheduling your Intake Meeting. This documentation must be no more than three years old and also demonstrate that the requested accommodations are necessary for the student to participate in the college’s educational programs. While documentation such as Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans from a school system may provide helpful background information, they are not sufficient to establish eligibility for accommodations at the college level and additional medical documentation may be required.
Reasonable accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis according to each student’s individual medical documentation and will be made to the extent that these accommodations do not sacrifice or compromise the integrity of an educational program, lower the academic standards, or produce undue administrative burdens.
