Designed for previously certified firefighters, technical education students, retired firefighters, and firefighters from out-of-state pursuing employment in Georgia, Lanier Technical College offers self-paced firefighter continuing education courses. These courses are approved by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC) and will follow the course curriculum outlined by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and GFSTC. The continuing education course meets or exceeds the minimum 24-hour mandatory continuing education required by all firefighters who have a desire to gain or retain the state of Georgia firefighter certifications. This program is not valid for parties who have not previously obtained at least one of the following certifications- IFSAC, NPQ Firefighter I, or Firefighter II.
Working in conjunction with the Fire Science Technology Program at Lanier Technical College, continuing education students will attend face-to-face courses such as forcible entry, hose evolutions, extrication, ventilation, ladders, and search and rescue drills. Training gear may be issued on a case-by-case basis and is subject to availability. All task books will be Lanier Technical College’s property until the student has completed the required hours. All continuing education training hours will be submitted to the Georgia Firefighters Standards Training Council system by the Fire Science Technology and Emergency Management program director.
