October 22, 2024

Gainesville, Ga— Lanier Technical College’s Motorsports Vehicle Technology (MVT) Program is known for creating top-notch motorsports technicians for the racing industry. Students acquire both classroom and in-field experience during their tenure at Lanier Tech. The program offers certificates, diplomas, and degrees in the career field of Motorsports. These academic options range from a few months to a full two-year associate’s degree. The program’s tagline, “We Build Racing Technicians,” rings true daily as numerous students and graduates earn opportunities to work alongside professionals at some of the nation’s well-known race teams and tracks.

The sold-out 2024 Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta was another instance where students gained insight into how professional racing events are conducted. Samantha (Sam) Sibilsky and Clay Salos received the 2024 Steve Lanier Scholarship from Road Atlanta during the pre-race ceremonies, The Steve Lanier Scholarship was created after the passing of Road Atlanta Facility Manager Steve Lanier to honor his legacy and to preserve the motorsports profession for years to come. Each student received $500 towards their educational tuition and material costs.

Graduates under their employers and students under Program Director, John Leverett’s supervision worked alongside each other during the week-long festivities at Road Atlanta. The list of students and graduates who participated is as follows:

Motorsports Vehicle Technology students earn the opportunity to work and learn from this event annually. Program Director Leverett said, “The turnout of the MVT program at this year’s race week was amazing. After it was all said and done, the MVT program had either a current student or alumni work for one of 10 championship-winning teams.” With the growing demand for racing technicians in the automotive industry, Lanier Tech’s Motorsports Vehicle Technology Program is determined to fill the skills gap with qualified, dedicated graduates.
