Rachel Lee, Welding and Joining Technology student at Lanier Technical College’s Barrow Campus was selected to be an Executive member of the Atlanta Section of the American Welding Society (AWS). Lee will also serve as be the Atlanta Sections’ Student Member Liaison, as well as the Publicity Chairperson.
The AWS recognized that student members are the future of the industry and of the AWS, so the position of Student Member Liaison was established in 2013 to enable the Sections to take advantage of the unique perspective and contributions that student members can offer.
As part of her liaison duties, Ms. Lee will serve as a liaison between the Atlanta AWS Section and Student Chapters of local welding and joining training programs; organize students in the area to select, plan and complete a community project; promote A.W.S scholarship opportunities to schools in the community, as well as to students; she will visit high schools in the Section area to promote welding as a career, and she will assist section officer in the planning and organization of meetings and events.
In Lee’s new two-year role as the Section’s Publicity Chairperson, she will supply the local communication and media channels with events and news of the Section, and she will work closely with the National AWS on matters pertaining to publicity and public relations. Additionally, Lee will be tasked with creating a favorable climate for welding in the Atlanta Section’s area. Lee’s news worthy articles will be published in the American Welding Society’s nationally distributed Welding Journal. In her publicity role, Rachel will travel to local schools promoting welding as a great profession.
