College Leadership, Board Members, Community Leaders, Academic Deans, Instructors, and Staff were all on site to extend their congratulations to the graduates. Lanier Tech President, Tim McDonald, shared his remarks about this commencement exercise,
“Congratulations to Lanier Technical College Class of 2023. These graduates have prepared well and are now ready to embark on the next chapter of their lives. They are ready for the workforce and will apply their new knowledge and skills in meaningful ways that will increase the prosperity of our already robust local economy. Student achievement is what we at Lanier Tech thrive on, and this year’s commencement marks our fifty-seventh graduating class. I have had the great fortune to be a part of forty commencement exercises, including my graduation from Lanier Tech in 1984. The ceremony is just as awe-inspiring today as it was when I walked across the stage as a new graduate. The look of accomplishment and confidence in the graduates’ eyes, the smiles on their faces, and the response from their families truly defines the magnitude of the occasion.”
All Lanier Tech graduates will take their newly-earned skills out into the workforce to improve their own lives and the communities in which they reside. For example, Computer Programming graduate, Hillary Dodge, expressed the impact of her time at Lanier Tech, “My experience at LTC was unmatched and wonderful. I obtained my first salaried position during my final semester. I feel equipped with the mental stamina and degree to pursue my chosen career path and will be able to provide even more for my family than I ever could before.”
This sentiment is echoed by Nurse Aid graduate, Emma Etris, who described her time at Lanier Tech as a discovery of her passion and just the beginning of her career goals. “Coming into Dual Enrollment at Lanier Tech at first was scary. After a couple of weeks, I learned that this was one of the best decisions I’ve made…I earned my Certified Nursing Assistant credential. Throughout this journey, I found my passion…healthcare. I’ve decided to continue my education and obtain my Radiologic Technology degree and plan on working at the hospital doing what I love…helping people.”
Below are the record-breaking numbers acquired by Lanier Technical College Class of 2023:
Total number of graduates: 1196
Total number of associate degrees: 370
Total number of diplomas: 393
Total number of certificates: 1,539
Another inspiring moment from this ceremony is that a family of three generations of Lanier Tech graduates watched the latest generation join the family’s alma mater. Jeannie Brown, a Medical Assistant Diploma graduate from the Class of 1983, and Shana Adams a Cosmetology graduate from the Class of 1993 cheered for Matthew Adams a Interdisciplinary Studies Degree 2023 graduate and Joshuah Nathan Adams who earned a Criminal Justice Specialist Certificate. Congratulations to you all and welcome to the Lanier Technical College Alumni family!
